Christmas is only two weeks away. Can you believe that? It feels just like yesterday that we were celebrating the Fourth of July, fireworks scrubbing our eyes clean with spongy patriotism, and now we are immersing ourselves in scheduling family gatherings, sending texts to long ago friends hoping for that reconnection, and making space in our calendars to go Christmas shopping. This seems to be routine in the months of November and December. Needless to say, it is tough to feel that holiday cheer when you are so busy, going from one place to the next in a candy cane blur, and sometimes it even feels that you are time traveling. It is that speedy. How exactly can this season be about the birth of Jesus when there is just so much else going on? We must take back the holiday.
As good Christians, we must always keep our eye on the prize, the true meaning behind the festivities, and that is the birth of Jesus. We must turn our eyes and our lips to scripture, to Bible passages that deal with the origins of the Christmas holiday. Our personal favorite is the old standby, Luke 1:26b-33: “God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendent of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, ‘Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.’ Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”
The meaning of Christmas can be found in that passage and at New Hope Oils, we always try to keep that in mind. Christ’s kingdom will never end and as we get together to celebrate Christmas, that kingdom must reign in our hearts. That is not to say that we should not get gifts for the loved ones in our life; they just should be gifts that inspire the soul and shake the heart, blanketing us in warm feelings of Christ’s love. Such gifts can be found on our site, Newhopeoils.com. We produce “healing oils in the name of Jesus Christ to anoint the sick and suffering.
